Meet-up: Noon, Sunday, 11/28, South Mountain Reservation, Dog Park Parking Lot
Maybe we'll see some of those flocks of wild turkeys, running off into the woods...

SOMbike films: Bike Stories

I wanted to present the first in a series of short videos profiling local residents who love bikes. The common theme in these videos will be personal stories about riding bikes and how it is a part of their life.

Thanks so much to Nick for helping with this
and Jeff for shooting

I rode in the cold rain today

I'm trying to figure out what it takes to ride in so-called bad weather. As Minnesotans are known for saying, there's no bad weather, only bad clothing.

I took the dogs for their morning walk and paid careful attention to where I was uncomfortable. Mostly, my neck got cold.

I had to see a client a mile away, and it always strikes me as highly wasteful to drive short distances. I wore sneakers, wool trousers, wool socks, a dress shirt, a wool sweater, a polar fleece gator, a baseball cap, a helmet, carpenter's goggles, and winter gloves. It did the trick. I was not uncomfortable at all. Wool stays warm, even when wet. Cold rain is a particular challenge. Warm rain is fine, and cold, dry days are OK, too. I think I'm onto something here. Let's see if I can keep it up in the worst wintery weather.
