SOMbike Advocacy Summer 2011 Updates


  • Bike Rack at Trader Joe's Millburn installed

  • Ten new bike racks to be intalled at M/SO schools this fall

  • South Orange BOT spproved bike lanes on both sides of Mead Street from Meadowbrook Lane to Vose Ave.

  • Crosswalks will be added where bike paths intersect the road on Mead Street

  • In August, work will begin on Tuscan Road in Maplewood, from Valley Street to Spring Ave., which will include striping for a bike lane

  • First ever bike repair class for kids at the SOM Adult School Camp is a big hit! Full registration for the month of July, including 30 girls and boys, from fifth grade to ninth. Camp Coordinator Cecelia Cancellaro said, "The word is out. Kids are telling kids about this class. Next summer, we'd like to offer more sections."

  • Next SOMbike Family Ride: Sunday, August 7th: Ride to Trader Joe's, then picnic at Taylor Park in Millburn. Meet-up: 10:30 AM, Maplewood Ave. & Baker St., Maplewood

  • Join us as we walk with thet Stop for Nikhil (the boy who was killed by a car on Wyoming Ave.) Wald/Run on Sept. 18th

  • Family Ride: Visit M/SO Community Gardens, Sunday, Sept. 25th (Meet-up: Sept. 25th)

  • Interested in a long ride? Mark your calendar for Sat., Oct. 1st. Details TBA.

  • Bike Repair for Adults: Tom Reingold and Kirk Sohr will be offering a one day class at the Adult School, details TBA
